WHY DBT?
DBT is a different kind of treatment. Many people come to DBT because they’ve already tried traditional therapy or medication (or both!) and it hasn’t helped, or they’ve seen some progress but still struggle with their mental health. DBT has a unique focus on developing coping strategies and integrating these skills within all the contexts of your life. It is because of the structured nature of DBT that these changes occur.
WHAT IS "FULL FIDELITY"AND WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Full fidelity DBT requires a client to attend weekly individual therapy sessions, participate in a weekly skills group, and call for phone coaching in between sessions as needed.
A full fidelity approach also requires the therapist to participate in a weekly consultation meeting with other DBT therapists so that the team members can help each other adhere to the treatment model.
Many therapists are familiar with DBT skills and will integrate them into their approach; but do not incorporate all of the elements of DBT (described above) into their practice. Research indicates the most successful outcomes happen when DBT is delivered in the full fidelity model.
DBT TRANSFORMS LIVES
I am very passionate about DBT and I absolutely believe in it's effectiveness as a treatment for a variety of different mental health challenges. DBT skills can help you regulate your emotions, communicate effectively and have healthy relationships, manage intense distress, and be more mindful in your everyday life.
