ORIENTATION AND APPROACH

I am glad you are interested in counseling with me and I look forward to hearing your story. Through therapy I can help you learn new ways to cope with current difficulties, as well as heal old wounds. I will strive to help you discover your own inner strength and become your best self.

My counseling specialty is in DBT, or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I have several years experience practicing DBT and I have completed extensive training in this counseling modality.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

In 2015, I received my Masters of Arts degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College- Graduate School of Education and Counseling.  Some of the coursework for this degree includes: Counseling Theories, Research Methods, Lifespan Development, Diversity and Social Justice, Marriage and Family Counseling, Interventions for Adults, Interventions for Children, Group Therapy, Ethics, Assessment, Addictions Counseling, Trauma Interventions, and Career Counseling.

After receiving my masters degree, I focused my approach on DBT, attending my DBT Intensive Training through the Linehan Institute in March of 2016.  I have also completed these additional DBT trainings: DBT for Eating Disorders, Radically Open DBT, and DBT Stage II for Trauma.

I have experience working with a variety of different levels of care, including residential and
community mental health, in addition to my current setting of private practice.

In order to maintain my licenses, I am required to participate in continuing education, attending classes and training relevant to my profession. This requirement is at least 40 clock hours within each reporting period (2 years).

ABOUT ME

I have lived in the Portland metro area for over 10 years now and I absolutely love calling the Pacific North West my home!

I grew up in California, spending the first half of my childhood in Orange County and the second half in Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border.  While living in Lake Tahoe I began working in the hotel and casino industry and this line of work took me briefly to Las Vegas, Nevada.  After awhile of trying out desert life, I finally decided on the career I wanted.  In 2007 I moved to Ashland, Oregon to study Psychology and begin my journey in becoming a helping professional. Graduate school brought me to Portland in 2012 and now I am here to stay! I have made it my life's mission to understand the human condition more deeply and extend myself in the service of others.

I spend most of my free time with my husband and our sweet baby boy, as well as the fur babies (our dogs Marvin and Hazel!)

I also enjoy practicing yoga, hiking, kayaking, and traveling (both near and far!)
